Why Jesus?

You’ve heard it said, “If I could see God I’d believe in Him.” Have you read the Revelation given to the apostle John on Patmos? Satan and his fallen angels were created by God, were in His presence, and still rebelled and fell! Like you and me, they had free will. But there is no redemption for fallen angels. Each one was separately created. There is no race of angels.

Humans, on the other hand, all have come from the one seed of Adam. God became a human, not an angel – Immanuel, God with us. Jesus lived out His perfection in a flesh and blood body. He was the only Human who never sinned. In a Roman occupied Palestine, Jesus gave Himself, and God gave His only begotten Son, as a perfect, unblemished Sacrifice for the sin of all mankind, for all time. He defeated sin and its power. Then, in verification of this victory, Jesus defeated death when He rose in a glorified, indestructible body!

The rest of the human race — you, me, all of us –are sinners. With our sin, we cannot be accepted by God. He is perfectly holy and sin cannot exist in His presence. Let me be clear about sin. What we call sins: all the harm we do to one another, wars, rapes, murders, thefts, lies, etc. are the result of our sin nature, which is rebellion against God and His authority. The characteristics of this rebellion are arrogance and fear. All “sins” flow from the sin of rebellion. The sin of rebellion against God will not go away without a fight of cosmic proportion. This is why God’s judgment of sin, described vividly in the Revelation to John, is so severe. Rebellion against God must be completely and eternally eradicated! There can be no resurrection of sin once it is finally destroyed.

Why Jesus? He’s our only hope! When we humbly and honestly confess our sin – our rebellion against God, repent, and ask for His forgiveness, He forgives our sin and cleanses us from all unrighteousness. We give up the false deity of Self and submit to God’s authority. We make a full 180 degree turn away from rebellion, and submit to the lordship of Christ. God, Who by His very nature cannot lie, has promised that if we put our faith in the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus, and repent of our sin – again, our rebellion against Him, that He will accept us.

When we stop living in oBEdience* to Rebellion and start living in oBEdience* to the one true God we begin an eternal relationship with Him. There is no other kind of relationship that can be had with God except one that is everlasting.

Why Jesus? Because unending life arrived in a manger in Bethlehem.

Merry Christmas!

*When we BE in Christ, it’s easier to oBEy! John 15:1-12
